Visiting UUMCFor a welcome message from Pastor Anthony Tang, please click here. For directions from your location to University Church, please click here. For a map of the UUMC church campus, please click here. For a photo directory of church staff, please click here. What to wear? There is no "right" way to dress for church. Wear what allows you to feel good. You will see shorts and t-shirts, suits and dresses, jeans and golf shirts, and traditional clothing of other cultures.
In the UUMC traditional worship services, Pastor Anthony will wear a robe and the traditional symbols of the church. In the UUMC contemporary worship services, Pastor Anthony will wear his everyday clothes, usually jeans and a t-shirt.
What kind of people attend this church? When you come to University Church you will see people from all over the Las Vegas metropolitan area. Everyone is welcome here. You may sit next to a teacher, a blackjack dealer, a dancer, a lawyer, an alcoholic, your neighborhood grocery clerk or your doctor. Here you will find the rich, the poor, the homeless, the disabled, the religious, and those who aren't so sure. We could go on and on, but we really mean everybody is welcome here, and that includes you, too. What about Communion? If you are not familiar with the practice of Holy Communion, please click here for more information.
Jesus once said, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick; I have come to call not the righteous but sinners.” Because of this, we do NOT believe that only certain "approved" people should take Communion. Anyone and everyone who wants to participate in this healing gift from God may come and receive at our Table. We welcome members, non-members, adults and children. For our wine, we even use non-alcoholic grape juice so that everyone may participate. (Although we haven't had any requests yet, if you're allergic to wheat, let us know.)
The only thing we ask is that all respect this invitation to Holy Communion: Christ our Lord invites to his table all who love him, who earnestly repent of their sin, and who seek to live in peace with one another.
Communion is served on the first Sunday of the month and on every Wednesday night. When the pastors are ready, they will invite you to come forward. When you're ready, come to the rail and either kneel or stand (if you cannot walk forward, let an usher know and we will come to you). Servers will come by with the bread (the Body of Christ given for us) and will offer you a piece. Then, you will be invited to either dip the piece in the cup and eat, or you may take one of our small communion cups to eat and drink when you are ready. Stay at the rail as long as you like in prayer and when you are ready you may return to your seat.
